If you can cut the easy tiles, that is great.
Just mark out the difficult cuts and drop these in to us, we can typically do these the same day ( less than 10 pces) , just remember to phone prior to dropping in.
Any tile cutter which is smooth to operate for you, that is, it scores the glazing neatly and then snaps the tile cleanly with the action being easy for you, then that is the right tile cutter for you. Each tile cutter will cut each brand of tile differently.
Every tile cutter uses a scoring wheel and there are two types;
Standard - sintered tungsten carbide
Titanium - sintered tungsten carbide coated with titanium
The difference between the two is longevity . If you are just doing a project every now and then then the standard wheel is fine . If you are a professional tiler then you should be using titanium as the wheel will stay sharper for longer.
Search for BAT tile scoring wheel to find, then search for the closest supplier near you.
There are multiple different styles and types of diamond blades.
We typically use our own brand of Ultra thin turbo 105mm , this blade is ultra thin at 1.2mm thickness, continuous segmented compound (turbo) and is small at 105mm which means that when the blade heats up during the cutting process we do not get the blade warping or deforming. Using a larger blade say the 125mm when mitering tiles can result in a tile cut which is up to 1-2mm out of square due to the deformation of the blade.
Check to make sure that you can see small specks in the matrix, those small specks are the diamonds. If there are no diamonds then the blade will not cut.
Diamond blades can over heat, especially when cutting porcelain floor tiles. If you see spark's during the cutting action , stop cutting and allow the blade to cool down then dress the blade.
When the blade is hot and sparks occur this is the metal matrix melting, the matrix holds the diamonds onto the blade, so all you are doing is allowing the diamonds to become unseated and they fly off . If there is plenty of matrix then there are diamonds buried below within the matrix and you will need to dress the blade.
You can use a dressing stone, to clean the matrix and expose the diamonds so that they cut more efficiency. Run the blade through the dressing stone for at least 60 seconds, cutting into the stone multiple times.
If you don't have a dressing stone , you could use a hebal block, H Block or sandstone something which is light and aerated not as efficient but it will work.
To give you an idea , we clean our diamond blades prior to every job then after 5mins of use when we are cutting tiles so that we get the cleanest cut.
Search DTA Diamond dressing blade , then search for the closest supplier near you
